What is a "dry contact" connection to the alarm

I noticed that the Silent Call transmitter comes in two form, the voltage type and the dry contact type. Not sure what that means. Help!

A dry contact is a contact where there is not direct connection to the power source. In this case the alarm would be powered directly and the transmitter would simply be triggered by closing a circuit on the alarm (i.e it being set off). The voltage version I expect would be powered directly. Dry can also refer to the fact that there is no mercury switch which would typically be referred to as "wet".
